St George chief executive to retire

ST GEORGE Bank's chief executive, Greg Bartlett, will retire from the bank on December 1, 2010, Westpac announced today.

Westpac chief executive Gail Kelly said Bank of South Australia chief executive Rob Chapman would replace Mr Bartlett on December 1.

Mrs Kelly, a former chief executive of St George, thanked Mr Bartlett for his contribution of 28-years to St George, particularly with the merger between the two banks in 2008.

"The Westpac/St.George merger has exceeded our already high expectations, and this is in no small part due to Greg's efforts," Mrs Kelly said.

"He will leave St.George in great shape."

Mr Bartlett joined St George in 1982, including nine years as group executive institutional and business banking before his appointment as chief executive.
