Average earnings up in May quarter

AVERAGE weekly ordinary time earnings (AWOTE) for adult full-time employees rose 0.8 per cent in the three months to May for an annual rate of 5.2 per cent, seasonally adjusted, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said.

The quarterly survey also showed AWOTE for the private and public sectors combined was $1,253.10 for the quarter.

Private sector AWOTE was up 0.7 per cent in the quarter at $1,227.80, seasonally adjusted, for an annual rise of 5.1 per cent.

Public sector AWOTE rose 0.6 per cent to $1337.40, seasonally adjusted, in the same period for an annual rise of 5.8 per cent.
