US stocks plunge, Dow falls more than 4pc

THE Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 4.3 per cent today as global markets melted down over fears of another world economic downturn. The Dow was down 511.93 points to 11,384.51 in closing trade; the broader S&P 500 lost 4.8 per cent to 1200.18, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite plunged 5.1 per cent to 2556.39.
