QUEENSLAND Premier Anna Bligh hopes to meet with Prime Minister Julia Gillard this week to discuss mining tax changes.
Ms Gillard was in Brisbane yesterday night to attend a Labor fundraising dinner before flying back to Canberra today.
But she will return to Brisbane again tonight to attend another dinner, this time with business leaders.
Ms Bligh said she was looking forward to meeting Ms Gillard when the new prime minister's schedule allowed.
"It may or may not happen this afternoon, it may also happen later in the week when she's back," she said.
The premier said the pair had already had a lengthy talk about getting the federal government's new resource super profits tax right.
"I've talked to her in detail about the issues for us here in Queensland around liquid natural gas and I've alerted her to the number of projects across all mining sectors which, over the next 12 to 18 months, could become a reality in Queensland," she said.

Ms Bligh said the discussion was "very encouraging".
"Despite the fact that it wasn't in her portfolio prior to becoming prime minister, less than a week on she is across these issues in a very high degree of detail," she said.
"I am confident that, in the prime minster, we have someone who's looking for a resolution as quickly as possible.
"From all accounts, it seems to me that she's on track to achieve that."
Ms Bligh would not speculate on whether an announcement on the tax might be made before she can meet Ms Gillard.
