James Hardie to pay ATO $153m

JAMES Hardie has settled a dispute with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and is set to pay the ATO $153 million.

The dispute related to an ATO audit of returns filed for the fiscal 2002, 2004 and 2006 years.

James Hardie (jhx.ASX:Quote,News) said the settlement was made without concessions or admissions of liability by either the building products company or the ATO.

The company also said it would reap a foreign exchange gain of $US20.9 million ($31.1 million) related to the payment of the settlement after benefiting from a fall in the Australian dollar.
