Woolworths exec faces new fraud charges

FRESH charges have been laid against a former Woolworths executive allegedly involved in a multi-million dollar international fraud.

David Wills, 57, appeared at Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court today charged with multiple counts of cheating or defrauding as a director, conspiracy to cheat or defraud, receiving corrupt commissions, corrupt inducement for advice and money laundering.

Police allege contracts worth more than $37 million were awarded, with Wills receiving corrupt commissions worth more than $3.7 million.

The new charges relate to tainted asset offences in which Wills allegedly made transactions valued at more than $300,000 knowing the funds were the proceeds of a serious offence.

Police have been investigating the matter for almost a decade.

The case was delayed for a further six months today after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) served more than 80 volumes of material on the defence.

Telephone intercepts and large amounts of files in Italian are yet to be translated.

The matter has been adjourned until January 29 next year for mention.
