Final PPI rose 1pc in March quarter

AUSTRALIA'S producer price index at the final stage of production rose 1 per cent in the March quarter, for an annual fall of 0.1 per cent, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said today.

This compares with a 0.4 per cent fall in the December quarter.

In the March quarter, at the intermediate stage, the PPI rose 1.2 per cent, while at the preliminary stage it rose 1 per cent.

Over the year to March, at the intermediate stage the PPI fell 2.2 per cent and at the preliminary stage it fell 3 per cent.

Economists had expected the March quarter PPI to rise 0.6 per cent for an annual fall of 0.7 per cent.
