GUD managing director Ian Campbell says it was asked to buy the stake in the electrical products distributor and has "no current intention'' of buying a bigger slice.
"As the owner of Sunbeam, the acquisition of 19.4 per cent of Breville is an attractive investment opportunity for GUD, satisfying the company's strategic and financial objectives.''
Breville imports and distributes electrical consumer products - including Breville, Kambrook, and Ronson brands - to a number of markets.
GUD says the acquisition is to be funded from cash reserves and is expected to be self-funding at current Breville levels.
It is expected to be "broadly earnings per share neutral''.
At 12.00pm (AEST), GUD shares were up 5 cents or 0.83 per cent at $6.05.
Breville shares were up 7.5 cents, or 10.42 per cent at 79.5 cents.
