PMP to axe 67 jobs, blames market

STRUGGLING print and distribution group, PMP, says up to 67 jobs will go from its business in Victoria because of deteriorating market conditions.

PMP also said that its second half earnings (earnings before interest and tax before significant items) would be below its first half results.

PMP said it had decided to reduce the number of permanent employees at its Clayton print site, with immediate effect.

"PMP print anticipates 67 permanent positions will be made redundant, primarily on a voluntary basis,'' it said.

"PMP print will work with local management, employees and the union over the coming weeks to support all staff while the redundancies take effect.''

PMP said the reduction in permanent employees would reflect a more appropriate match of labour to production and would not have any adverse impact on its customers.

The company said it would incur an extra $4.5 million redundancy charge in 2008/09.
