iiNet profit up on subscriber boom

INTERNET service provider iiNet has grown its first half profit by 50 per cent on the back of subscriber growth.

iiNet posted a net profit for the six months to December 31 of $11.4 million, compared to $7.6 million in the previous corresponding period.

Revenue was $205 million, up 75 per cent on $117.1 million in the previous corresponding period.

iiNet (iin.ASX:Quote,News) managing director Michael Malone said the revenue growth was at the top end of the company's guidance, and that the company was on track to achieve its full year forecast of at least $400 million in revenue.

"Our half year results reflect strong subscriber growth due to the continued success of Naked, the successful consolidation of Westnet and the increasing popularity of our innovative products, particularly our award winning Naked service," Mr Malone said.

The company currently has 723,000 internet customers, and over 100,000 telephony-over-internet-protocol subscribers.

Its market share was 6 per cent at December 31.

"We are on track to exceed $400 million of revenue in FY09 and are well positioned to grow shareholder value," Mr Malone said.

The company declared a fully franked interim dividend of 3 cents per share.
